Catford Film Studios based at Southend Hall had begun in 1914, in 1916 2 silent films were made there Tom Brown's Schooldays and The Man Who Bought London. The Man Who Bought London was the first film based on Edgar Wallace fiction.

A Pathe film of the 20th London returning in 1916 from the Battle of Loos with a captured Enemy Gun and parading it through the streets of Lewisham.

The Obelisk Dinning Rooms, seen in the film was at 2 Loampit Hill, Lewisham.
